Piano facts
Brand: Yamaha | Height:Â 48″ | Model: U1E | Finish: satin black | Year: Â 1990 | Serial number: 4837800 | Bench: matching duet storage bench included
A legendary workhorse, freshly prepared and priced to move
The Yamaha U1 is one of the most trusted and widely played upright piano in the world—for decades the best-selling piano model on the market, and still a benchmark against which other uprights are measured. This U1E is a domestic market instrument, carrying none of the controversy associated with grey-market imports.
We’ve rejuvenated the key bushings, regulated the action, completed basic maintenance voicing, and cleaned the piano from top to bottom. The action’s touch weight is medium, and the piano is voiced to a medium-to-bright tone. The result is a responsive, satisfying instrument that plays well across a wide dynamic range. The piano is in good cosmetic condition; the bench shows some finish wear but is fully functional.
The price on this piano reflects one known condition: the soundboard has cosmetic cracks — a common occurrence in uprights of this age, caused by decades of seasonal wood movement. The ribs are fully intact with no separations, which is the true measure of soundboard health. As a precaution, we’ve reinforced the rib-to-soundboard joints for long-term stability. Tone, power, and sustain are excellent.
This piano is suitable for beginning through advanced students. It has the touch weight and tonal quality to support serious development at every stage — and enough instrument to challenge a player well into their studies.
