Sell Your Piano with Confidence
Selling a piano can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. At Little Valley Piano Service, we make the process effortless with flexible options tailored to your piano’s age and quality and to your timeline. Whether you need to sell quickly or want to maximize your return, we’ve got you covered.
Start with a Sales Consultation
We recommend scheduling a sales consultation and market analysis. During this visit, we’ll inspect your piano and provide informed recommendations about the best way to sell it. This helps us understand your piano’s condition, current market value, and which selling option will work best for you.
Your Selling Options
Depending on your piano’s characteristics, we offer different pathways to help you sell.
For Quality Pianos We’d Like in Our Showroom
We’re selective about which pianos we bring into our inventory. Generally, we look for pianos that are structurally sound, less than 30-40 years old, and without significant wear or damage that would require parts replacement. We prefer vertical pianos at least 43 inches tall and grands at least 5’1″. Better brands allow for more flexibility on age and condition, while entry-level brands like Pearl River or Young Chang need to be more recent (typically under 20 years old).
If we’d like to have your piano in our showroom, you’ll typically have three selling options:
Option 1: Website Listing with Referrals
We list your piano on our website and refer interested buyers to you. If we send the buyer who purchases your piano, we ask for 15% of the actual sale price. This approach often gets you the most money for your piano, but it may take longer to sell, and you’ll need to keep the piano at your home and handle showings yourself. Keep in mind that pianos in storage that can’t be played are very difficult to sell at their appropriate value.
Option 2: Consignment from Our Showroom
We move your piano to our West Rutland showroom and handle everything—storage, maintenance, showings, and the sale. You receive a commission when the piano sells. This option gets the piano out of your home quickly while typically yielding a higher return for you (compared to an outright purchase), but you’ll wait for payment until we complete the sale. Most pianos sell within 6-12 months, though timing is never guaranteed.
Option 3: We Buy Your Piano Outright
We make you an offer and purchase your piano immediately. You get paid right away, and all remaining work is in our hands. While this is the quickest and easiest option, the purchase price will generally be lower than what you’d receive through other methods.
For Pianos That Don’t Meet Our Showroom Criteria
Even if we’re not interested in adding your piano to our inventory, we still want to help you sell it.
Website Listing Service
We’ll list your piano on our website and refer interested parties to you for 15% of the sale price. If your piano is free, our listing service is free as well. We’ll recommend an asking price based on our market knowledge, but your input matters too. The only requirement is an accurate listing based on a recent inspection by a qualified technician.
Piano Removal Service
Unfortunately, some pianos have reached the end of their useful life. We’re seeing more pianos that can’t be given away, often because they need major reconditioning that costs more than the piano’s worth. If your piano fits this category, we can provide a quote to safely remove it for disposal. We have the tools and experience to handle this respectfully and efficiently.
Our Track Record
We have a proven history of successfully selling pianos throughout central Vermont and beyond. Our expertise in the local market, combined with our technical expertise, means you’re working with people who understand pianos and the people who buy them.
